As we wrap up the first half of the VR 4 Fitness Challenge, this post will be shorter. More of a capture of the data. I saw good progress this week, but some backsliding over the weekend. I need to figure out how to sustain good habits 7 days a week and not just 5. Something to ponder as I move into the back half.
Trends are either moving in the right direction or starting to stabilize. So all good things right now. And rest didn’t stall out progress. In fact it seemed to break my current plateau. So stay tuned for more in the second half of this 8 week adventure.

Week 4 is up next, and the half way point with this challenge!!

Wrapping up the first half of this Fitness Challenge. This week introduced better rest periods on Tuesday and Thursday and I saw my lowest weight yet! So there is definitely something to allowing your body to rest as much as you force your body to push hard on workout days. We’ll take that learning into the second half of this VR 4 Fitness Challenge.

Week 4 Update Coming Soon…
BC.

Worked remotely today and that kind of threw off my regular schedule. Didn’t hit the spin bike till after 9:30pm. But I managed a decent pace for that late in the day. Tomorrow will wrap Day 20 of this VR for Fitness Challenge. Things are moving in the right direction, and it will be interesting to see how all the health stats play out when I tally over the weekend.

A solid fitness day today! I broke up my 10 mile bike in the evening into two courses. Cambridge is technically a “row machine” course, but the crowds along the river are pretty cool. Wrapped my day cycling in outer space! I did my cardio with Coach Doc (one of my fav coaches on Supernatural), and did “flow” aka bats to epic film score music. Medium intensity really pushes me, so I’m glad I left Low intensity behind me. But I’m definitely not ready to push into Hard for a bit. Progress continues. Feels like I’m back on the horse finally (or the spin bike…)

My first swing at a legit REST DAY (besides last weekend). It was fun to get on the bike for my usual “drive to the office” and then to not worry so much about all the other tasks for the day. Did a 1:1 on the Walkabout course this morning, and the rest of the day is for resting, and getting ready for another Fitness day tomorrow!

Week 4 has begun! Today I continued to ramp up with harder sessions and it felt good to feel more of the burn in cardio and on the bike. Tomorrow a true “rest day” to see how that impacts weight loss, giving my body some time to burn the fat. Maybe by the end of this I will understand the health elements better. For now, I’m just making this up as I go along. But also feeling pretty good!

Three weeks are behind me, and five weeks in front. So nearing the half-way point. This week I ramped up both Cardio and the Spin Bike programs into “medium intensity” and “hard” respectively. I noticed an immediate difference. Things were much, surprise surprise, HARDER! So this coming week I am modifying my “wellness days” and ramping those down into true “rest days”. I will keep with my 5 mile bike ride in the morning, as I enjoy having a “commute to work” (as a remote worker). And I will keep “push up/sit up/plank/stretch” in the mix too, in order to keep that habit strong. Just dropping the jump rope and the treadmill on Tuesday and Thursday. I also am using the weekend as full rest, to allow everything to settle before diving back in. I don’t know how that will work out in the long run, but these feel like good adjustments to make three weeks into the challenge.
I also plan to begin sharing reviews of the products I’m using, but those will come out in a staggered format, versus a weekly cadence. Hoping to start with the Hidrate Smart Water Bottle this week (not sure if I’d be hitting my water targets without it!)
Stats are below. Modifying here as well to show how things change week to week. I will do a much deeper dive into the full data set once this thing is officially done (and who knows, I will probably keep tracking stuff).
Blood pressure continues to improve (I’ve switched from twice a day to once a day in the evening for a consistent measurement when my BP meds are at full impact). Water also improved based on some serious effort and smart bottle reminders. Weight was all over the place to due a short weekend trip where my food habits were disrupted, but I’m back on track now and the numbers are already dropping. So hopefully better news there at the end of Week 4!
Finally, here is a short video I created to show what it looks like to ride a Spin bike in VR. I will share more videos like this in future posts. I hope it inspires you (and me too!)
Stay tuned.

Week 4 is up next, and the half way point with this challenge!!

Wrapping up Week 3 of the VR for Fitness Challenge. Today was a tough one because I have ramped up both the bike and cardio intensity. So working up more of a sweat than the previous workouts. But I think that’s a good thing. I am going to re-evaluate how I handle “rest days” going forward and make sure I don’t push myself too hard. But I am sticking with my morning 5 mile ride in Aurvangar (who else can say they start each day out racing a dragon!!)
Week 3 update coming Sunday night (or Monday morning) depending on how the weekend goes! Hoping to share some videos to show what biking in VR actually looks like. Fingers crossed. Happy weekend!!

Till Monday…
